From May 4 to 6, 2022, the first in-person OMI MEX seminar after the pandemic took place at the School of Medicine and Health Sciences, Tec de Monterrey Campus in Mexico City. The course focused on Medical Education, informing fellows about different theories of teaching, the characteristics of a good teacher, and much more. The schedule also included a group discussion and a small group teaching, which was based on role-playing.
32 fellows from all over Mexico took part in the first ever OMI Mex gathering of this kind.
The course was led by Dr. Jay Mehta, Fellowship Director of the Division of Rheumatology and Associate Program Director of the Pediatrics Residency Program at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. The faculty included Dr. Adelaide Barnes, Assistant Professor of Clinical Pediatrics, and Dr. Donald L. Boyer, Attending Physician in the Division of Critical Care Medicine, both also from the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. Additionally, the faculty included two faculty members from Mexico, Dr. Jorge Valdez, Dean of the School of Medicine and Health Sciences of the Tecnológico de Monterrey, and Dr. Lydia Zerón, Director of the Regional Department of Clinical Sciences of the Tecnológico de Monterrey.
The seminar concluded with a closing ceremony and award presentation on Friday afternoon.
