From May 23-25, 2022, the OMI MEX CHOP Seminar in Pediatric Emergency Medicine took place at Centro MĂ©dico ABC Santa Fe, Mexico City.
The course was led by Dr. Manoj K. Mittal, Professor of Clinical Pediatrics and Attending Physician at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. The American faculty was concluded by Dr. James M. Callahan, Professor of Clinical Pediatrics at the Perelman School of Medicine (PSOM) of the University of Pennsylvania and a Pediatric Emergency Physician at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, and by Dr. Mirna M’farrej, Professor of Clinical Pediatrics at the University of Pennsylvania’s Perelman School of Medicine and an attending pediatric emergency medicine physician in the Division of Emergency Medicine at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. Mexican faculty members were welcomed by AMSA and included Dr. Carlos Bañuelos, Chief of Services at the Emergency Department of the Hospital Infantil de MĂ©xico Federico GĂłmez, and Dr. Karla SolĂs, a pediatrician at ABC Medical Center.
The faculty compiled an appealing schedule which included topics such as Status Epilepticus, Family Presence During Resuscitation, Burn Management in Pediatric ER, and many more. All three days of the seminar included a workshop, teaching fellows about Pediatric ECGs, The Painless Pediatric ED, and Radiographs-Not to Miss. Monday and Tuesday afternoon were dedicated to fellow’s case presentations, giving them the opportunity to share from their own clinical experience, which resulted in fruitful discussions.
41 fellows from all over Mexico and 2 fellows from Ecuador participated in the seminar.
On Wednesday the seminar concluded with lunch and a closing ceremony.
