Mentoring Matters: A Commitment to Growth

Feb 6, 2025

It was at the OMI in Salzburg where Dr. Vanja Popovic, OBGYN resident from Montenegro, met with faculty Dr. Eloise Chapman-Davis from Weill Cornell Medicine during a seminar in 2023. They kept in touch and ultimately, Dr. Chapman-Davis helped organize an observership at WCM this January.

Dr. Popovic had a great experience. She shares with us why mentoring matters and how it transformed her life.

“Dr. Chapman-Davis has outstanding clinical skills, a vast knowledge base, and extensive experience – qualities that were incredibly valuable to me. She exemplifies best practices in patient care and decision-making while encouraging trainees to ask questions and seek guidance. She demonstrated advanced clinical practices and procedures – some of which are available in hospitals back home, while others are limited due to a lack of equipment. Working with her in the clinic, I gained a deeper appreciation for compassionate patient care and effective communication. She has been an exceptional mentor – not only a teacher, but also a guide and advocate, who has profoundly influenced my perspective on gynecologic oncology. I look forward to applying these insights in my future practice.”

The OMI is beyond grateful to Dr. Chapman-Davis for being such a fantastic mentor and for her support and guidance to our fellow.
