From March 25 to 27, 2025, Dr. Almuthe C. Hauer, OMI faculty and an internationally renowned pediatric gastroenterologist from the Medical University of Graz, conducted a visiting professorship in Varna, Bulgaria. OMI alumna and local organizer Dr. Ruzha Pancheva highlighted that the program was “exceptionally well received and attracted more than 250 participants. Dr. Hauer’s visit brought significant value to our clinical community and inspired many young professionals. It exemplified the spirit of academic excellence and cross-border collaboration supported by the Open Medical Institute.” Bravo! We also congratulate Dr. Dimitar Raykov, a distinguished orthopedist, who recently became the Rector of the Medical University of Varna. He attended the event personally and reminisced about his time at the OMI in Salzburg 20 years ago.

The visit included the following lectures:
- March 25, 2025: Lecture for English-speaking medical students on abdominal pain – alarm symptoms versus functional abdominal pain.
- March 25, 2025: Presentation on cow’s milk allergy during the Biomedical Forum (BMF), which is a joint initiative of the Medical University of Varna and the Bulgarian Society for Cell Biology.
- March 26, 2025: Lecture for Bulgarian-speaking medical students on abdominal pain – alarm symptoms versus functional abdominal pain.
- March 27, 2025: Collegium for students, pediatricians, and specialized doctors on pediatric inflammatory bowel disease.
The Friday evening event was attended by Dr. Dimitar Raykov, Rector of the Medical University of Varna, a distinguished orthopedist and OMI alumnus, as well as Dr. Zlatina Pandelieva (Head of the Neonatology Department at the University Hospital, Varna), another OMI alumna.
